How to become an Emami distributor

Emami reaches 54 lakh retail outlets in India through more than 3,400 distributors.3 It publishes one route for distributors: the “Sales and Distribution Query” option of its query form.1 Here is how its network works, how to apply, and what the money and the daily work look like.

How Emami appoints distributors

  • The numbers. Emami’s 2025-26 annual report says it reaches “over 5.4 million retail outlets in India through more than 3,400 distributors”. The same report shows a “4,000+ Distributor base pan India and internationally”, and its business responsibility report counts 3,146 dealers and distributors in 2025-26 (3,401 the year before), who took 79.56% of sales. The figures differ because the last one counts general trade only and the 4,000+ includes other countries.3
  • Sub-stockists under Project Phoenix. Project Phoenix is Emami’s go-to-market programme for high-potential urban markets. It works on field staff, digital tools and route-to-market, “while improving sub-stockist assortment depth and service frequency”.3
  • Villages above 10,000 people. Emami says it expanded its footprint “across villages with populations exceeding 10,000”.3 It picks villages with analytics, using “size, proximity to highways, number of pucca vs kutcha houses”, and maps them by their coordinates.4
  • Back to rural. “While our recent focus was on modern trade and e-commerce, we are now re-deploying resources to drive growth in rural markets,” Emami said, with ₹1, ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 packs and shampoo sachets, PTI reported on 5 Feb 2026.6
  • Other channels. Modern trade was 12% and e-commerce 14% of Emami’s domestic business in 2025-26. E-commerce grew 16%, led by quick-commerce sales that grew 2.2 times.3

How to apply: the official way

  1. Fill the query form on emamiltd.in

On emamiltd.in/connect/query, choose Sales and Distribution Query as the Query Type. The page says: “Or, want to partner with us? Just fill and submit the form below and we will connect with you!”1

Every field is mandatory: name, contact number, email, location (city), Folio No/Client ID, query type, message and a verification code.1 Our suggestion: the Folio No/Client ID field is meant for shareholders; if you hold no Emami shares, write “NA” there and say so in your message.

  2. Or write to contact@emamigroup.com

The same page gives the email contact@emamigroup.com and the address Emami Limited, Emami Tower, 687 Anandapur, EM Bypass, Kolkata 700107, West Bengal.1

  3. Say exactly what you can run

Our suggestion, since Emami publishes no format: name your town and the areas or villages you can cover (Emami’s rural push is in villages of over 10,000 people); say whether you want a town distributorship or a sub-stockist role; list the brands you distribute now, your godown address and size, your vehicles, your GSTIN, how many shops you supply today, and whether you can pay for stock in advance.

What you need before you apply

No company in this series publishes a full document list. These are the registrations the law itself asks of a distributor, from the government’s own pages:

RegistrationWhen you need itWhere
GSTOnce your turnover crosses ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand), or at once if you sell to another state. Without it you “can neither collect tax from [your] customers nor claim any input tax credit”, so a distributor supplying GST-registered shops registers. (GST Council)gst.gov.in
E-way billFor each consignment over ₹50,000 moved by motor vehicle. Van sales to shops go on a delivery challan. (CBIC, e-way bill FAQ)ewaybillgst.gov.in
E-invoiceOnce your turnover crosses ₹5 crore, for bills to GST-registered shops. (CBIC Notification 10/2023)Your billing software, through the GST e-invoice portal
Shop & EstablishmentSet by each state. Example: Maharashtra registers places with 10 or more workers (Form A) and takes an intimation from smaller ones (Form F), with no fee.Your state’s labour department
Udyam (MSME)Optional and free. For traders its benefit is limited to priority-sector bank loans. (Ministry of MSME)udyamregistration.gov.in

What Emami has said about money and price

  • Payment in advance. Emami’s accounts say: “Sales are made generally after receipt of advance except for certain customers where payment is due within 30 to 90 days from day of sales.”3 Our suggestion: plan your working capital on paying before stock is dispatched.
  • Receivable days. Emami’s trade receivables fell to 33 days in 2025-26 from 43 days a year earlier, across all its customers.3
  • Price parity. Emami says “price parity across General Trade supports a consistent consumer experience”.3
  • Channel conflict. “The channel conflict is not easy to manage. Since these are emerging channels, our presence is almost mandatory,” vice chairman Mohan Goenka said, adding that Emami is segregating packs for each channel to minimise the conflict. He also said Emami will add “some baskets” to existing distributors so they also serve “modern trade or ecommerce to make them viable”, The Economic Times reported on 22 Feb 2025.5
  • Margins, investment and deposit. Emami does not publish them, and we found no credible report of distributor margins.

Fake “Emami distributorship” offers

The common patterns of these frauds are in our main guide.

Once you are appointed: what the work looks like

  • Emami’s software. Emami runs Distributor Management Systems on SAP-based platforms, Sales Force Automation and Supervisor Apps for field staff, and a B2B portal for trade; AI is now used for inventory optimisation.3 Emami does not publish the B2B portal’s name.
  • Beats are geo-tagged. Emami plans beats by geo-tagging outlets, and its SFA handhelds capture store location and data at the point of purchase.4
  • Sub-stockists get more attention. In Project Phoenix markets Emami is working on sub-stockists’ assortment depth and how often they are served.3
  • Small packs. The rural push runs on ₹1, ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 packs and shampoo sachets.6
  • ESG checks. Emami covered 51% of its distributors under ESG awareness and assessment programmes in 2025-26.3
