How to become a Marico distributor
Marico (Parachute, Saffola) reaches over 58 lakh shops through more than 10,200 distributors and stockists.1 It publishes no way to apply as a new distributor: its contact page speaks only to distributors it already has.4 Here is how its chain works, what Project SETU is changing, and what the work looks like.

Marico’s annual report describes the chain: “Marico’s products reach its consumers through retail outlets serviced by Marico’s distribution network comprising regional offices, carrying & forwarding agents, redistribution centers & distributors spread all over India.” (p. 238)1
- The network. More than 10,200 distributors and stockists cover over 58 lakh retail outlets, supplied from 6 factories, 25 warehouses and 4 redistribution centres (p. 128).1
- Two numbers that do not match. The same report says Marico sold to 1,825 dealers and distributors in 2025-26 (1,667 the year before), and that 100% of its sales went through dealers and distributors (p. 135). It does not explain why this is lower than 10,200, and we do not guess.1
- Where the shops are. Marico reaches 58 lakh of 1.13 crore outlets; urban India gives about 73% of its sales and rural about 27%.3 Its network covers over 60,000 villages and almost every town above 5,000 people (p. 118).1
- Project SETU. A three-year general-trade programme (FY24 to FY27) to raise direct reach “from approximately 1 million outlets to 1.5 million by FY27”, that is from about 10 lakh to 15 lakh outlets. It started in 11 states in FY25 (p. 102)2 and now covers rural expansion across India plus city chemist, cosmetic and speciality food outlets.3 In the FY26 report Marico said it is “firmly on track” for about 1.5 times direct reach by FY27 (p. 30),1 and in October 2026 it credited part of its value-added hair oil growth to “enhanced direct reach through Project SETU”.6
- Still investing in kirana trade. The Economic Times reported in Aug 2026, citing its CEO, that “Marico is continuing to invest aggressively in general trade.”7
How to apply: what Marico publishes
Know that Marico publishes no route for new distributors
Marico’s contact page speaks only to distributors it already has: “Existing Customers: Connect with your Marico sales representative.” For their IT problems it gives salesit.

Registered office: 7th floor, Grande Palladium, 175 CST Road, Kalina, Santacruz (East), Mumbai 400098, phone +91 22 66480480 (8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday). Regional offices: North (407-A, Copia Tower, Jasola District Centre, New Delhi), East (Salt Lake, Kolkata), South (Begumpet, Hyderabad) and West (Mahakali Caves Road, Mumbai). All are on marico.

connect@ marico. com is for the media.4 Say exactly what you can run
Our suggestion: under SETU Marico is growing direct reach in villages and in city chemist, cosmetic and speciality food outlets.3 If you serve such shops, say so with numbers: the town or villages you cover, how many shops you supply today and of which kind, the brands you carry now, your godown address and size, your vehicles, your GSTIN and FSSAI number.
What you need before you apply
No company in this series publishes a full document list. These are the registrations the law itself asks of a distributor, from the government’s own pages:
| Registration | When you need it | Where |
|---|---|---|
| GST | Once your turnover crosses ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand), or at once if you sell to another state. Without it you “can neither collect tax from [your] customers nor claim any input tax credit”, so a distributor supplying GST-registered shops registers. (GST Council) | gst.gov.in |
| FSSAI | For any food. From 1 April 2026: Registration up to ₹1.5 crore turnover, State licence ₹1.5–50 crore, Central licence above ₹50 crore. (FSSAI order, 13 Mar 2026) | foscos. |
| E-way bill | For each consignment over ₹50,000 moved by motor vehicle. Van sales to shops go on a delivery challan. (CBIC, e-way bill FAQ) | ewaybillgst. |
| E-invoice | Once your turnover crosses ₹5 crore, for bills to GST-registered shops. (CBIC Notification 10/2023) | Your billing software, through the GST e-invoice portal |
| Shop & Establishment | Set by each state. Example: Maharashtra registers places with 10 or more workers (Form A) and takes an intimation from smaller ones (Form F), with no fee. | Your state’s labour department |
| Udyam (MSME) | Optional and free. For traders its benefit is limited to priority-sector bank loans. (Ministry of MSME) | udyamregistration. |
FSSAI rules a distributor must follow
- Buy and sell food only from and to FSSAI licensed or registered businesses, and keep the records. (FSSAI licence conditions)
- Give a warranty in Form E on your bill or cash memo when you sell food to a shop.
- Licences and registrations issued from 1 April 2026 do not expire; the fee is still yearly, and you may pay several years at once. (FSSAI FAQ, 27 Mar 2026)
- On the application, tick every kind of business that applies: Distributor/
Supplier, Wholesale Trade, Storage/ Warehouse/ Cold Storage. - Fees: the last published table is ₹100 a year for registration and ₹2,000 for a State licence for traders. FSSAI said in March 2026 that fees were reduced, so check the amount on FoSCoS when you apply.
What Marico has said about distributor money
- Credit. Marico’s accounts say “the sales are made with credit terms, which is consistent with market practice” (p. 238). The number of days is not disclosed.1
- Returns. “The customers have the right to return goods only when authorised by the Company.” (p. 238)1 Damaged or expired stock goes back to Marico only when Marico authorises it.
- Less stock, less pressure. In late 2023 Marico cut the stock its distributors carry. The Economic Times quoted its investor update in Jan 2024: “This included a primary stock correction for our channel partners”, done to improve their return on investment.8 In Feb 2025 The Economic Times reported CEO Saugata Gupta on “implementing a minimum operating price and reducing working capital pressure on general trade”.9
- Margins. Marico does not publish distributor margins. The Economic Times reported in Jan 2024 that “most distributors earn fixed margins between 3-6% irrespective of sales”, plus variable margins for hitting targets, and named Marico among companies reworking distributor margins. That is an industry-wide figure, not Marico’s.8
Fake “Marico distributorship” offers
The common patterns of these frauds are in our main guide.
Once you are appointed: what the work looks like
- Cloud DMS. Under SETU Marico is moving distributors to a cloud distributor management system: “adoption of Cloud DMS for greater operational efficiency and data security” (FY25 report, p. 102).2 For IT problems, existing distributors write to salesit.
support@ marico. com.4 - System checks and AI. Marico’s three-year sales IT plan includes piloting an AI product-recommendation engine for outlets, system-led hygiene controls, and “Enhancing the digital experience for channel partners” (FY25 report, p. 102).2 Its next phase adds automation and AI-led resource planning to cut leakages, and system tools for assortment and bill value (FY26 report, p. 118).1
- Shops may order on Marico’s own app. The Economic Times reported in Sep 2021 that Marico, like Hindustan Unilever and ITC, launched its own ordering app for retailers. We did not find the app’s name.10
- Returns need Marico’s approval (see above).1 Our suggestion: record each shop’s damaged, leaking or expired stock with the reason as it comes back, so your return request to Marico is ready.
