Tata Consumer Products (TCPL) sold to 7,308 dealers and distributors in 2025-26, and they took 49% of its sales.3 TCPL publishes one route for distributorship enquiries: the “Stockist / Distributorship” option on its Contact Us form.1 Here is how its network is built, how to apply, and what the work looks like once you are in.

TCPL’s 2025-26 annual report describes a network split by category, by town and by channel:3
- Distributors by category. TCPL says it has “trifurcated” its distributor network “based on the specific needs of the categories handled, nature of retailers serviced and relative market strength”. Depending on the market, salt, non-salt (growth) products and a core/common range each have their own distributor model.
- Split distributors in the top 100 towns. In its priority 100 towns TCPL brought in a “Split Distributor” model, with separate supervision for each portfolio. About 500 distributors were moved onto it in 55 days (p. 100-101).
- Super-stockists and sub-stockists for villages. In rural areas, super-stockists feed sub-stockists. TCPL counts 100+ super-stockists and 3,000+ sub-stockists. Its super-stockist base grew 37% in 2025-26, and the sub-distributor network added 3,000+ villages, taking direct coverage to 16,000+ villages (p. 100-101).
- Separate channel distributors. 150 distributors serve the pharmacy channel, which reached more than 40,000 outlets in its first year (including through Tata 1mg). 170 distributors were added for food services, which crossed ₹100 crore within a year across 40 cities.
TCPL reaches 45 lakh outlets in all, 18 lakh of them directly (2025-26).3 Its warehousing runs through C&F agents (CFAs), such as the Kanpur and Vizag CFAs named in its list of sites.3 A CFA is a separate role, not a distributorship.

Our suggestion, since TCPL publishes no format: name your town and the areas or villages you can cover; say whether you want a category distributorship (salt or non-salt) in a town, a sub-stockist role for villages, or the pharmacy or food-services channel; list the brands you distribute now, your godown address and size, your vehicles, your GSTIN, and how many shops you supply today.
Check any reply that asks for money
TCPL’s caution notice says: “For any queries, please contact our customer service at [customer.
service@ tataconsumer. com] or call us at +91-080671 71200.”2 Our suggestion: use these to check any call or email that claims to come from TCPL.
What you need before you apply
No company in this series publishes a full document list. These are the registrations the law itself asks of a distributor, from the government’s own pages:
| Registration | When you need it | Where |
|---|---|---|
| GST | Once your turnover crosses ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand), or at once if you sell to another state. Without it you “can neither collect tax from [your] customers nor claim any input tax credit”, so a distributor supplying GST-registered shops registers. (GST Council) | gst.gov.in |
| FSSAI | For any food. From 1 April 2026: Registration up to ₹1.5 crore turnover, State licence ₹1.5–50 crore, Central licence above ₹50 crore. (FSSAI order, 13 Mar 2026) | foscos. |
| E-way bill | For each consignment over ₹50,000 moved by motor vehicle. Van sales to shops go on a delivery challan. (CBIC, e-way bill FAQ) | ewaybillgst. |
| E-invoice | Once your turnover crosses ₹5 crore, for bills to GST-registered shops. (CBIC Notification 10/2023) | Your billing software, through the GST e-invoice portal |
| Shop & Establishment | Set by each state. Example: Maharashtra registers places with 10 or more workers (Form A) and takes an intimation from smaller ones (Form F), with no fee. | Your state’s labour department |
| Udyam (MSME) | Optional and free. For traders its benefit is limited to priority-sector bank loans. (Ministry of MSME) | udyamregistration. |
FSSAI rules a distributor must follow
- Buy and sell food only from and to FSSAI licensed or registered businesses, and keep the records. (FSSAI licence conditions)
- Give a warranty in Form E on your bill or cash memo when you sell food to a shop.
- Licences and registrations issued from 1 April 2026 do not expire; the fee is still yearly, and you may pay several years at once. (FSSAI FAQ, 27 Mar 2026)
- On the application, tick every kind of business that applies: Distributor/
Supplier, Wholesale Trade, Storage/ Warehouse/ Cold Storage. - Fees: the last published table is ₹100 a year for registration and ₹2,000 for a State licence for traders. FSSAI said in March 2026 that fees were reduced, so check the amount on FoSCoS when you apply.
What is known about distributor money
- Stock you carry. TCPL’s Automated Replenishment System (ARS) sets each distributor’s replenishment from secondary sales data. TCPL says “distributor inventory days reduced, resulting in enhanced working capital efficiency and strengthened distributor-level return metrics” (p. 102). It does not say how many days of stock it expects.3
- Payment terms and credit days. The 2025-26 annual report does not state payment terms for TCPL’s customers in India, and we found no credible report of them.3
- Margins, investment and deposit. TCPL does not publish them, and we found no credible report of them.
The October 2025 dispute, as reported. Storyboard18, a Network18 trade site, reported on 13 Oct 2025 that about 400 direct distributors and 500 sub-distributors in Maharashtra had joined a protest against TCPL.4 In an email to the CEO, distributors alleged auto-generated repeat orders, credit notes failing for returns and delayed expiry and damage claims, and said “cash flow has been impacted due to delayed settlements of purchase returns, expiry claims, and margins”.5 These are the distributors’ allegations. After a meeting on 29 Oct 2025, the distributors’ federation AICPDF said TCPL had assured that “corrective actions and resolutions will be implemented within committed timelines”, and the protest was called off, Storyboard18 reported.6
Fake “Tata Consumer distributorship” offers
The common patterns of these frauds are in our main guide.
Once you are appointed: what the work looks like
- Onboarding on MAVIC. TCPL sets up distributors on MAVIC, its AI-enabled go-to-market platform built with Salesforce. It says onboarding takes about 45 minutes and a new retailer can place orders within about 2 minutes. It moved 3,000+ distributors onto MAVIC in four months, about 200 in a single day.3
- Distributor sales reps work on TCPL’s SFA app. Distributor Sales Representatives (DSRs) get their incentives inside the Sales Force Automation app, and urban beats are geo-fenced to check routing. AI in the app influenced 41% of orders, and route planning cut field travel by 30% (p. 102-103).3
- Reorders come from ARS. The Automated Replenishment System works out replenishment from your secondary sales, for urban and rural distributors (p. 102).3
- Shops see schemes on the Retailer App. TCPL says retailers get “transparency on schemes, orders and payments” through its “Retailer App”. TCPL calls it only that; we did not find its public name.3
- Training. Training hours went up five-fold in 2025-26 for distributor sales reps, distributors and sales managers (p. 102).3
